All these attractions are connected by one highway, Sea-to-Sky Highway or Highway 99. Here are some of the best destinations to explore:
Whistler Olympic Park: This facility was specifically built for the 2010 Winter Games. Today, the park offers access to winter cross-country skiing trails. A set of Olympic rings as well as unusual ski jumps are still in good condition. Snowshoers prefer to take the route to viewpoints such as Alexander Falls while the Nordic Skiers prefer the groomed trails.
Lost Lake: The Lost Lake has a beach and the trails from the Lakeshore go all the way into the forests, giving tourists a chance to explore British Columbia wildlife. Other activities here include bird watching and biking in the summer to cross-country skiing in the winter.
Squamish-Lil’wat Cultural Center: Located at First Nations Museum, this cultural center takes visitors through the culture and history of the Squamish and Lil’wat people. Both of the above have lived in Whistler for longer than man can remember.
Peak 2 Peak Gondola: This takes visitors back and forth between two mountains which are 4.4 kilometers apart. The ride only takes 11 minutes and on a clear day, visitors get to enjoy spectacular views of both mountains and the surrounding landscape. The surroundings are characterized by alpine lakes, snowcapped mountains and dense coniferous forests.
Whistler Blackcomb: Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain both rise above Whistler and boast of a reputation as the one of the best skiing sites in North America. Blackcomb alone boasts of more 37 lifts which provide access to 200 runs and as such, there’s a lot to do in one day.
