About Fujairah, UAE
Right along the Gulf of Oman, on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates is the city of Fujairah. Known for the Hajar Mountains and its luxurious beaches, Fujairah is also home to the towering Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The city covers 450 square miles with a population of just over 152,000 people. Fujairah’s local industries are primarily mining, stone crushing, and cement production. Sadly, even if visitors and foreigners fall in love with this land, they are not allowed to purchase any of it. Only Emirati nationals are allowed to purchase government land, and only after they prove their natinoality.
Popular Destinations in Fujairah
Looking for activities once your private jet arrives in Fujairah? Here are some of the travel attractions deemed most popular in this region:
Sardinia:Â Visiting the Arab Emirates is no reason to limit one’s palate to just Arabic food. Sardinia is the perfect spot for those looking to indulge in Italian cuisine. Thanks to Chef Angelo Usai, this Italian kitchen remains almost unrivaled. Although the restaurant’s appearance is modest, the dishes are extravagant in taste. Diners can feel free to enjoy a glass of Chianti as they sample the creamy risotto, woodfired pizza, and homemade pasta. Those with a sweet tooth are advised to try the chef’s tiramisu for dessert.
McGettigan’s FJR: If your taste buds crave a different style, McGettigan’s FJR may be the perfect place for you. An Irish pub, this spot offers happy hours, nightlife, and frequent open mic nights.
Breezes: Visitors preferring cocktails on the beach are in luck. There is no better place to enjoy a nice drink and a bit of food than at Breezes, located at the Hilton Fujairah. A large seafood platter takes top honors at this restaurant. Also featured are the salads, burgers, and delicious pasta. When it comes to beachfront restaurants, Breezes is the town’s one and only. Those looking for a romantic setting can wait until evening and dine alongside the ships at the Fujairah port.
Fujairah Fort: The Fujairah Fort is a real treat during the evening hours. At night, this 16th century structure is flooded with lights that drapes over a date palm oasis. The rocky mound which rests above the vestiges of Fujairah’s old village are also worth a look. In the days of yore, the Fort was defended through its construction of the square and circular towers. Gypsum, wood, grave, and mud make up the materials of this fort. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views from the ramparts and towers. Visitors looking to access the heavy teak doors which lead to the towers may have to ask around for directions, as access is not readily available to laypeople.
Bull-Butting: America has its baseball and football, and Fujairah has its ancient sport of bull-butting. In a dusty dirt patch at the center of town, bulls from all over the UAE compete against each other in a show of strength and the locking of horns. No need to worry, though, as these animals are treated very well by their owners. The goal is for bulls to push each other out of a circle; this is often a quick process but caution always comes first. The sport is traditionally played in an open field, but these days, the area is fenced in for spectator protection.
