About Necker Island, British Virgin Islands
This privately-owned island is located just of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. Only 28 guests can occupy the resort at any given time. The island’s owner, Sir Richard Branson, originally toyed with the idea of putting up rock stars in his resorts, upon finding out that the British Islands were for sale back in 1978. He eventually purchased the island for a mere $180,000- a steal. As a stipulation of his contract, Branson was required to develop a resort on the island that he purchased within five years of the purchase date, or the island would revert back to the state.
