Whalers Village Museum: This could well be the only chance most individuals will ever have to see a life-size whaling ship up close and personal. The experience is particularly eye-opening for tourists and locals alike. The time period between 1825 and 1860 is referred to as The Golden Age of Whaling in Maui. This is because ships traveling between the Arctic and Japan would stop here to restock before returning to their New England home. The true depths of whaling history are represented by interpretive plaques, harpoons, ships logs, and authentic period photographs in this fascinating, albeit small museum.

Fleetwood’s on Front Street: Famed drummer Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac owns this establishment. The rooftop oasis features ornate accents, cushy lounges, and comfy pillows while offering the best view of the West Maui mountains and the Pacific. Get ready for the bagpipe serenade and tiki lighting ceremony at the sound of the conch shell blast signaling sunset. Following the ceremony, live music kicks up the atmosphere. Happy Hour is from 2 PM to 5 PM; if visitors see a red flay flying atop the bar, it’s a sure sign that Mick Fleetwood is on the island.

Ma’alaea General Store and Café: Enjoy the signature Ruben sandwich while sitting on the porch, or shop for what you need at the friendly general store. Red-hot hot dogs for two dollars, gluten-free and veggie solutions, freshly baked bread, and the expected deli eats are offered here.

• Hana Airport (HNM): This airport is located around 150 miles from Curitiba, and is at an altitude of 3500 feet above sea level.
