The Salzburg Residenz and the Residenzgalerie: Located on the western side of the Residenzpltz, the Salzburg Residenz is the former palace of Prince Bishop. Hohensalzburg Castle: This is a prominent attraction in Salzburg, and is visible from different places around the city. Located on the southeastern side of Monchen, Hohensalzburg Castle is accessible via a funicular railway or a 20-minute walk from Old Town. The fortress was originally built in 1077, but most of what can be seen today dates back to the 16th century. Tour highlights include defensive gateways, a Fire Bastion from the 17th century, a 1504 unique hoist, a tiny church from 1502, a cistern from 1539, an organ from 1502 which is still functional, and the famous Salzburg Bull.
