Popular Destinations in Santiago
Looking for activities once your private jet arrives in Santiago? Here is a look at some of the popular tour destinations in Santiago:
La Chascona: La Chascona was built by well known Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, as a secret getaway for his mistress and him. The name was inspired by Matilde’s hair and the building features a lot of sea-inspired décor. For instance, the living room was modeled on a lighthouse and the living room on a ship’s cabin. Audio tours in different languages take visitors through the history of the enchanting house.
Central Gabriela Mistral: This arts center was built and named after the acclaimed Gabriela Mistral, a poet and the first Latin-American woman to win a Nobel Peace Prize. It serves as a venue for concerts and performances on most regular days. The ground floor features rotating art exhibitions, and it’s impossible not to get attracted by Central Gabrial Mistral which looks like a giant rusty cheese grater on the outside.
Museo de la Moda: Located near Av Vitacura, this is a fashion museum which hosts a vast collection of permanent collection of Western clothing from the 20th century. Although the museum only displays a fraction of the items at any given time, there are plenty of clothing exhibitions from some of the most iconic designers in the 20th century. Key highlights include a cone bra designed for Madonna by Jean P. Gaultier, John Lennon’s jacket from 1966 and an evening gown worn by Lady Diana in 1981.
Cerro Santa Lucia: Until the reign of Benjamin Mackenna as mayor of this city, this well-manicured park was simply a rocky hill. Today, the park features a number of stone stairs and walking trails, some of which lead to the Torre Mirador at the top of the hill. There are also a number of interesting buildings and churches worth exploring.
